Halfpenny Digital didn't start with a business plan. It started with a frustration: watching good, hard-working small businesses get let down by their websites.

25 years on the shop floor

Before Halfpenny Digital, Trevor Smith spent 25+ years in retail — running teams, managing budgets, and learning first-hand what actually keeps a small business afloat. Not theory. Real P&L, real customers, real Saturdays spent fixing problems no one warned you about.

Alongside that, 10+ years working in digital marketing showed a pattern that kept repeating: small businesses were pouring money into websites that looked fine, but didn't actually do anything. No enquiries. No calls. Sometimes not even a working contact form.

The gap we kept seeing

Most small business owners don't have the time, budget, or patience to become web design experts. So they end up with one of two things: a drag-and-drop site that's slow, generic, and invisible to Google — or no website at all, because a "proper" agency quoted them a price built for a much bigger business.

Neither felt right. A website should be one of the hardest-working, cheapest members of your team — not a box you tick and forget about.
